Starbucks has announced plans to launch a new program that will let customers and employees earn and purchase digital collectible stamps (NFTs), a program that will eventually open access to new immersive coffee experiences.
Being one of the first industries to incorporate NFTs with an industry-leading loyalty program at scale, Starbucks is planning to build a web 3.0 community that will be accessible and also enableenable new ways to engage with members and partners (employees).
The program Starbuck Odyssey was announced by the company on September 12, it is a new experience that is powered by web 3.0 technology and will enable the company’s reward members as well as employees in the United States to earn and buy NFTs and eventually give permission to new benefits.
From September 12, customers and employees in the United States can join the waitlist for an opportunity to be among the first set of people to have access to the Starbucks Odyssey experience, a reward program to be launched before the end of this year.
“Starbucks has always served as the Third Place, a place between home and work where you feel the warmth of connection over coffee, community and belonging. The Starbucks Odyssey experience will extend the Third Place connection to the digital world,” said Brady Brewer, Starbucks executive Vice President and chief marketing officer.
“For the first time we are connecting our Starbucks Rewards loyalty program members not just to Starbucks, but to each other,” Brewer added.
Brewer furthered that Starbuck’s ability to leverage web 3.0 technology will let the company’s members access experience and ownership that was impossible before.
“By integrating into the Starbucks Rewards ecosystem and grounding the experience in coffee, connection, and community, we are entering the Web3 space differently than any other brand,” said Brewer.
The reward program will be launched on the Polygon network, an Ethereum sidechain that allows cheaper, faster, and more energy-efficient transactions.
Many companies like Coca-Cola and Reddit have tapped Polygon to launch their NFTs recently due to the unique benefits it offers.

About Starbucks Odyssey
The program will be an extension of the industry-leading Starbucks Rewards program that members can access using their Starbucks Rewards login credentials.
Once they logged in, members can engage in Starbucks Odyssey ‘journeys,’ a series of activities that include playing interactive games or taking on fun challenges to deepen their knowledge of coffee and Starbucks. Every member who can complete the journey will be rewarded with a digital collectible ‘journey stamp’.
Members can as well buy limited edition stamps (NFT) via a built-in marketplace within the Starbucks Odyssey experience, it will however be available for all members to buy directly using a credit card.
