Pando Rings exploiter bought the ETH dip then laundered it

Listen: the breakdown

Market briefing: An old exploiter wallet bought 7,548 ETH near $2,249 in the Binance-hack dip, then pushed 4,000 ETH into Tornado Cash. BTC sat near $78,210 as of 08:55 UTC.

  • The Pando Rings exploit address bought 7,548 ETH at roughly $2,249, about $16.7M in DAI
  • The same wallet later sent 4,000 ETH, near $9.17M, into Tornado Cash to obscure the funds
  • A separate large holder also bought 27,553 ETH for $62.97M in the same five-hour window

While everyone watched the Binance hacker, a Pando Rings exploiter quietly bought the ETH dip near $2,249. So who really reads a fear-driven selloff as a buy signal?

While traders fixed their attention on the Binance hacker, a second criminal wallet went shopping.

The address behind the 2022 Pando Rings exploit swapped DAI for 7,548 ETH. It paid an average of roughly $2,249. That is about $16.7M spent. It bought the dip that followed the Binance hack three days earlier, when ETH fell into the low $2,200s.

Then it got careful. Within the last seven hours, the same wallet pushed 4,000 of those ETH into Tornado Cash. Roughly $9.17M went in to be obscured.

The approach was methodical. Before the ETH purchase, the address deposited 16.8M USDT into Aave on October 30. It borrowed 5,000 ETH, repaid the debt, then withdrew the collateral. The leverage came first, the cover came later.

It was not alone in the window. A separate large holder spent $62.97M on 27,553 ETH at an average of $2,286, all inside about five hours. Two very different wallets, one shared instinct: buy the panic.

The original Pando Rings hack drained around $20M through a price oracle vulnerability back on November 5, 2022. Four years on, those proceeds are still moving, still being cleaned, and apparently still being traded.

That is the uncomfortable part of this story. A thief treated a fear-driven liquidity flush as an opportunity, not a reason to hide. Retail, meanwhile, stayed glued to the hacker headline. ETH has since recovered to $2,297.64.

Who absorbed the post hack ETH flush

This matters because of who was buying, not how much.

The Binance hack headline did the heavy lifting. Fear drove an ETH selloff, that selloff flushed liquidity, and price slid toward $2,249. A headline became a discount.

That is the transmission chain worth remembering. News creates emotion, emotion creates forced selling, and forced selling creates the exact prices that patient size waits for. A criminal wallet understood that chain better than most of the crowd watching it unfold.

The laundering details carry a quieter signal too. The wallet used Aave to source leverage before the buy, then Tornado Cash to obscure the proceeds after. Both rails ran smoothly around a major liquidity event, despite years of sanctions scrutiny. The plumbing of illicit finance is still open for business.

There is a dry lesson in the sequence. The wallet did not launder in panic during the dip. It bought first, then cleaned up days later, once price had already bounced. Even the criminals, it seems, wait for the recovery before tidying the books.

For the broader market, this is one flow, not a trend. It does not move ETH on its own. But it is a clean case study in behaviour: fear sells, size accumulates, and the paper trail only appears later. The macro backdrop stays the same, and this wallet simply read it the way a professional would.

ETH leads while BNB keeps lagging

The direct price impact here is small, and that is the honest read.

One exploiter wallet buying 7,548 ETH does not set the trend for a trillion-dollar market. ETH's 1-hour change was effectively flat at the time of writing. The recovery to $2,297.64 was already underway before the laundering news landed.

Still, the flow tells you where the demand concentrated. ETH is up about 1.1% on the day, while BNB lags at roughly minus 0.4%. The dip-buying clustered in ETH, not across the board. Size picked its target rather than spraying bids.

That selectivity matters for the cascade. BTC sat near $78,210 as of 08:55 UTC, barely moved on the day. When the leader is quiet and ETH outperforms a weak BNB, you are seeing rotation into a specific name, not a broad risk-on wave.

Altcoins stay the tell. Broader alt sentiment remains shaky because the bid was narrow. One asset catching strong hands does not lift the whole complex. If this were real accumulation across crypto, you would expect BNB and the mid-caps to follow. They have not.

So treat the ETH bounce with care. It reflects concentrated demand into a post-hack flush, not a confirmed market turn. The liquidity event is visible on-chain, but it has not yet translated into the kind of synchronised strength that marks a durable move higher.

Signals that separate accumulation from a trap

The first thing to track is follow-through, not the headline wallet.

Watch whether ETH holds back above the $2,286 zone where the large separate buyer averaged in. That level is now a line in the sand. Lose it and the post-hack bounce starts looking like a relief move, not accumulation.

Reclaiming and defending the dip region near $2,249 would be the constructive sign. If ETH stays well above where the exploiter bought, the smart-size thesis gains weight. Fall back toward $2,249 and the buyers who front-ran the crowd are suddenly underwater.

Keep an eye on BNB as the confirmation or the warning. A BNB recovery would suggest the dip-buying is broadening beyond a single name. Continued BNB weakness says the bid stays narrow and fragile.

The laundering flow itself is worth monitoring, but mostly for context. More ETH moving into Tornado Cash signals the wallet is converting a trade into cover, not adding exposure. That is housekeeping, not conviction.

Invalidation is simple. If ETH slips back under $2,249 on rising sell volume, the accumulation read fails, and the move reads as a bounce that sellers faded.

Confirmation is the mirror. Higher lows above $2,286, with BNB and broader alts joining, would show the fear-driven flush genuinely transferred coins from weak hands to strong ones. Until then, this stays a single interesting flow inside a still-cautious tape.

What dip buying near 2,249 signals about demand

The ParadiseTeam reads this as a behaviour lesson, not a market mover.

A criminal wallet did what fearful retail would not: it bought ETH near $2,249 while the crowd doom-scrolled the Binance hacker. That is the edge in one sentence. Size accumulates into panic, retail reacts to the headline.

It fits our standing frame. We treat hacks as catalysts, not causes. The Binance event accelerated a move that structure already set up, and this wallet simply harvested the discount that the fear produced.

Ground it in the tape. BTC was near $78,210 as of 08:55 UTC, still inside the zone we distributed into between $79,000 and $87,000, and we de-risked long ago from $121,000. We are not chasing. We flagged that tracked whale positioning, including Keel flipping short around the hack, was already bearish-leaning before the news.

So here is the balance. On its own facts this flow is neutral for crypto. One exploiter wallet buying and laundering does not change BTC's decision point or ETH's structure.

That said, strength can still meet sellers. If ETH pushes higher into resistance while BNB and alts refuse to follow, that narrowness is exactly where distribution hides. We would want a defended higher low, a sensible stop-loss, call it SL, below $2,249, and a risk-to-reward, R:R, that survives being wrong before trusting the bounce. Patience beats the headline here.
