It was a hilarious Wednesday when the prominent Twitter user, Elon Musk took to Twitter to joke about buying the British soccer club, Manchester United, a tweet that influenced the fake Manchester United token to soar by 3000%.
The Manchester United token is not related to the soccer club in any way, it was a token developed by a team of programmers who claimed to be fans of the soccer club in August 2021.
In November of the same year, the programmers announced 10,000,000,000 MUFC airdrop, the team promised people who follow their official social media handle 10,000 MUFC, however, the prospects of getting the token freely pushed the price to $1.
After November, it plunged by 100%, and since then, the token has been worthless till Elon Musk’s tweet on Wednesday, a tweet he later described as a “long-running joke on Twitter.”
Not only the MUFC fake token soars in response to the tweet, the Manchester United stock rose 1.97% in pre-market trading, and Tezos (XTZ), the Man United’s official blockchain and training partner market’s valuation rose by $138.85 million.
In addition to the MUFC token that was affected by the tweet, another related token like Manchester City’s official crypto coin soared by nearly 14% even though Manchester City was a different club.

The MUFC token in the past 24 hours has been trading against two cryptocurrencies, namely WBNB and USDT, a data from Pancakeswap, a decentralized exchange revealed that the liquidity for the WBNB/MUFC pair was around $106.84, it was even lower for the USDT/MUFC pair at around $10.
