Ethereum ETFs post record 23-day net outflow streak

Listen: the breakdown

Market briefing: US spot Ethereum ETFs just logged a record 23 straight days of net outflows, and the exits are getting bigger, not smaller. ETH held near $2,258 while BTC traded around $77,554 as of 00:47 UTC.

  • US spot Ethereum ETFs recorded net outflows for 23 straight trading days, the longest streak since the July 2024 launch.
  • Oct. 30 saw $155.85 million leave in a single day, the largest of the streak and about 48% above the prior day's $105.48 million.
  • ETH barely moved on the news, sitting near $2,258, which tells us the selling has not yet shown up fully in price.

US spot Ethereum ETFs just set a record 23-day net outflow streak, and the daily exits keep growing. So why has ETH barely moved while the money leaves?

US spot Ethereum ETFs have now bled money for 23 consecutive trading days. That is the longest net outflow streak since these funds first launched in July 2024. This is not a one-day wobble. A single bad print can be noise. Twenty-three in a row is a pattern, and the pattern is pointing one way.

The exits are also getting heavier as the streak runs on. On Oct. 30, the ETH ETFs shed $155.85 million in a single session. That was the largest daily outflow of the entire 23-day run, and about 48% more than the prior day's $105.48 million. At the time it printed, Oct. 30 also marked a fifth straight day of redemptions inside the broader streak.

So the selling is not fading into exhaustion. It is accelerating into month-end. That matters because of how these products work. Every redemption flows back through the ETF market makers, who must trim underlying exposure to meet it. Twenty-three days of that is steady, mechanical supply landing on the market.

And here is the part that keeps strategists honest. Despite all of this, ETH has barely flinched. It was trading near $2,258, up a touch on the day, with the one-hour change essentially flat.

That gap between heavy outflows and a calm price is the real story. Either something is quietly absorbing the supply below the surface, or the next leg lower is simply still loading. We prefer to name both rather than pretend we know which.

Why a record outflow streak changes the demand read

The transmission here is simple, and that is exactly why it matters. Spot ETFs were the clean institutional on-ramp for ETH. When they buy, regulated demand pulls supply off the market. When they redeem, that same channel pushes supply back out.

A record 23-day streak flips the signal from demand to distribution. It tells us the institutional ETF channel is a net seller, not a net buyer, and has been for almost a month.

The acceleration deepens the read. If outflows were shrinking each day, you could argue the pressure was burning itself out. Instead the single largest day of the streak arrived most recently, which says the selling is still building.

That is the opposite of what a bottoming market usually shows. Capitulation tends to spike once and fade. This is grinding.

There is a macro angle too. ETF flows are the cleanest proxy we have for how comfortable large allocators feel holding crypto risk into month-end. A persistent, widening redemption tells us that comfort is thinning, not returning.

None of this guarantees a price crash tomorrow. Flows and price can disagree for weeks, and right now they plainly are. But sustained ETF distribution is a headwind, and it rarely resolves in the seller's favour by accident.

The honest framing is this: the demand story that carried ETH for much of its ETF era is, for now, running in reverse.

How ETH weakness feeds back into BTC and alts

Start with the asset at the centre. ETH held near $2,258 and up about 0.5% on the day, which is remarkable given the scale of money leaving through the funds. A calm price under heavy redemptions usually means someone is absorbing the supply, or the drawdown is simply delayed.

We will not pretend that calm is strength. The brief shows no offsetting accumulation signal inside this move. Flat price plus growing outflows is fragility wearing a steady face.

Now trace it outward. ETH is the risk barometer for the broader altcoin complex. When its institutional bid turns into a steady offer, alts lose their strongest cover, and underperformance tends to spread.

BTC sits above the pair, trading around $77,554 as of 00:47 UTC. Bitcoin is not the one bleeding here, so the first-order hit lands on ETH and the alts that track it, not on BTC directly. But correlation does the rest. If ETH finally gives way and the alt market follows, that risk-off tone can drag on BTC bids too, especially with Bitcoin already pinned just under the $79,000 liquidation cluster.

So the cascade reads: ETF distribution hits ETH first, pressures alts second, and only then threatens to leak into BTC sentiment. For now the damage is contained to the ETH side of the book. The question is how long containment holds while the exits keep growing.

What confirms or breaks the outflow pressure

The cleanest confirmation is the flow itself. One or two sessions of net inflows would break the streak and tell us the institutional channel has stopped selling. Until that prints, treat the pressure as live.

Watch the daily size, not just the direction. The streak turned dangerous when the biggest outflow arrived last, not first. If daily redemptions keep expanding, the selling is still accelerating, and ETH is drawing on an unseen bid to stay flat.

Shrinking daily outflows would be the first real tell that the pressure is exhausting, even before a clean inflow day appears.

Then watch whether ETH's calm holds. Price near $2,258 under this much redemption is the market's current answer to the pressure. A break below that steadiness, on rising volume, would confirm the outflows finally reaching spot. A stubborn hold, especially if flows turn, would argue quiet absorption was real all along.

Keep one eye on BTC near $77,554 too. If ETH weakness starts dragging Bitcoin toward and through the $79,000 liquidation cluster, the story stops being ETH-specific and becomes a broader risk-off event.

The invalidation of the bearish read is straightforward. A snapped streak, inflows returning, ETH firming on volume: that combination would say the distribution phase is closing. Short of it, we respect the trend that the facts describe, which is money leaving, faster, for 23 days running.

What the widening outflows mean for positioning

The ParadiseTeam reads this as genuine distribution through the ETF channel, not a disguised accumulation. The tell is in the facts: the streak is lengthening and the daily exits are growing, which is not what quiet absorption looks like. That said, flat ETH price under heavy redemptions deserves respect. Someone is meeting that supply. We just will not dress a delayed drawdown up as a bottom.

On BTC, our standing lens stays structurally bearish on the higher timeframes while smart money absorbs support lower down. Bitcoin was near $77,554 as of 00:47 UTC, pinned just under the $79,000 liquidation cluster where prior bounces were already sold in profit.

That cluster is the pivot. Leverage still sits heavier above price than below, so a short-squeeze domino toward $90,000 remains the medium-timeframe risk even in a weak tape. A clean loss of $79,000, with ETH leading risk lower, points instead toward the 0.786 support beneath and, structurally, the $44,000 to $55,000 reaccumulation zone we have flagged.

So we hold two ideas at once. ETH outflows are a real headwind that can pressure alts and eventually leak into BTC. Yet the near-term squeeze setup above price has not gone away.

The discipline is to let the flows and the $79,000 reaction decide, not the mood. Retail is still largely on the sidelines here. We would rather trade the level than the narrative.
