The event

The near-term read is neutral: weekly ETF flows stayed positive, but the daily tide flipped to two sessions of net outflows, so the fresh money is real yet losing momentum.

Data from Farside Investors and SoSoValue, alongside the on-chain feed we track, puts spot Ethereum ETF net inflows at $104 million for the week of July 20 to 24 (ET): a third straight positive week.

Spot Bitcoin ETFs netted a token $3,379, SOL added $7.2 million, XRP $8.15 million, while HYPE ETFs bled $8.61 million in outflows.

The two readings that diverge

The weekly tape is green, but our MCP Insights ETF-tide data grades current flow at 50, down from 53. The last two Bitcoin sessions flipped to net outflows, with the 24 July print at -$240.1 million.

The MCP ETF-tide labels this an absorption divergence: price soft while net flows stay positive. In plain terms, allocators keep buying into a weak tape rather than chasing it higher. The five-day flow still reads a positive $33.7 million.

Which side is paying to be wrong

Absorption is usually the constructive side of a split: steady buyers accumulating while price stalls. The caveat is the slipping tide grade and the two-day outflow streak. What faded this week was momentum, not conviction.

You can watch each daily print resolve on our Bitcoin ETF flow tracker, where the cumulative net total now sits near $51.4 billion since the 2024 launch.

What it means for risk

For posture, this reads as a no-chase week. Fear and Greed sits at 30 (fear), our funding squeeze grade reads a cool 17, and cycle top-risk odds sit at 47. None of that argues for aggressive sizing into a soft, absorbing tape.

In roughly 11 of 22 comparable MCP ETF-tide readings since 2024-04-09 (up-rate near 51%), price resolved higher within the following 10 trading days: close to a coin flip. The read inverts if the out streak extends past three sessions and the tide grade breaks below 45.

For the wider signal set, our live market insights grades sit alongside this flow read, and newer allocators can start with the basics in our education library.

This is market analysis and education, not financial advice. Nothing here is an entry, a target, or a position recommendation. Flows can reverse without notice, so size risk to your own plan.
