Emirates Airlines Accept Bitcoin

Bitcoin is soaring to the sky! The United Arab Emirates national airline, Emirates Airlines, has announced that it will soon start accepting Bitcoin payments.

The Dubai-headquartered airline announced at the Arabian Travel Market. Apart from Bitcoin, The UAE’s largest airline had previously revealed plans to incorporate non-fungible token (NFT) collectibles for trading on the company’s website and enter the metaverse world.

Airline Scale into Blockchain Technology

According to its COO, Adel Ahmed Al-Redha, the company aims to expand its reach. The airline industry is slowly recovering from the COVID-19 lockdown period. Thus, UAE’s largest airline must take advantage of all resources to reach travelers.

Al-Redha added that they would recruit additional workers for metaverse and NFTs to develop applications that will monitor consumer demands. The new staff will handle blockchain-related projects such as crypto payments, blockchain tracking, metaverse, and NFTs.

The Dubai-headquartered airline ensures it is aligned with UAE’s vision for the digital economy as far as blockchain technology is concerned. UAE’s largest airline’s COO stated that the company would view NFTs and metaverse as two different applications and approaches.

Emirates Airlines plans to leverage blockchain technology to keep aircraft records. On the other hand, the metaverse will be used to transform processes such as operations, training, website sales, and many different airline-related experiences in the digital world.

Emirates Airlines is determined to break into the blockchain industry despite the challenges. During the announcement, Al-Redha noted that getting resources across the network was challenging. However, he also recognized that the Dubai-headquartered airline stands in a better position compared to other countries in terms of accessibility.

Other Airlines Embracing Bitcoin

Emirates Airlines is not the only aircraft firm that has embraced blockchain technology. Last year, Air France partnered with several organizations to create a blockchain-based system that verifies COVID-19 results.

Another airline, the Latvian airline airBaltic, added Dogecoin and Ether to their payment options. It had already been accepting Bitcoin since 2014.
