Bitcoin spot ETFs took in another $232.2M on August 26, their 8th straight positive session, per Farside Investors data reconciled against our MCP Insights ETF-tide feed. The honest read is neutral: the buying is persistent and real, but the tide grade sits at 53 and its forward up-rate is close to a coin flip.

BlackRock did roughly 87% of that single-day figure, about $200.8M, per the source feed. Zoom out and the concentration holds: from August 17 through 26, BTC ETFs absorbed near $2.80B, and BlackRock accounted for about $2.02B of it, or 72%.

The receipt: eight sessions, one buyer

Our MCP ETF-tide series confirms the streak at 8 days and its five-day flow at about $1.80B of net inflow. Cumulative net flows across the complex read roughly 54,659 (USD millions) since launch. The numbers are not in dispute.

What is worth naming is who is buying. When one issuer drives 87% of a day and 72% of a ten-day window, the flow is less “the market” and more one allocation engine: a strength while it runs, a single point of failure if it pauses.

What the tide grade actually says

Here is the part the headline number hides. In roughly 11 of 22 comparable MCP ETF-tide inflow readings since April 2024 (an up-rate near 51%), Bitcoin resolved higher within the following 10 trading days. That is effectively a coin flip, not a green light.

The tide grade of 53 says the same thing in one number: inflows are real and aligned with price (the feed flags flows and price aligned, no divergence), but the setup is not a statistical edge. You can track the same flow data on our Bitcoin ETF flow tracker.

What makes this instance different

Two things. First, sentiment: our Crypto Fear and Greed Index reads 71, firmly in greed. Eight days of inflows into an already-greedy tape means the crowd is leaning the same way the ETFs are, which thins the pool of new marginal buyers.

Second, the split inside the complex. GBTC bled about $50.4M even as the total stayed positive, per the feed. That is older, higher-fee money still rotating out beneath cheaper inflows: healthy plumbing, but a reminder the headline “net” hides two-way traffic.

Risk posture: constructive tailwind, no edge

For risk, this is a hold-your-frame reading, not an aggressive one. The flow supports existing longs; on a 51% forward up-rate it does not justify chasing. The highest-probability posture here is patience, letting price confirm rather than paying up into greed.

What flips it. A session that turns the daily BTC ETF net flow negative, snapping the 8-day streak and dragging the MCP ETF-tide grade below 45 (it reads 53 now), tilts the read bearish.

The reverse risk surfaces first in positioning. Sweep odds now read 60, up 56 on the day: watch the crypto liquidation heatmap and the Coinbase premium gauge for whether real US spot demand is behind the flow or just the ETF wrapper.

This is analysis and education, not financial advice. Nothing here is an entry, a target, or a position recommendation. Do your own research and manage your own risk.
