São Paulo, a Brazilian football club, announced on May 26 that it would include cryptocurrency as part of payment options for tickets from fans, a payment method to be enabled by the Bitso exchange.
However, a crypto payment option will be available for every ticket to games hosted at home by São Paulo, be it Morumbi or another stadium.
Eduardo Toni, the executive marketing director for São Paulo, said offering more payment options to fans is a crucial step towards modernizing Morumbi stadium and making cryptocurrency more accessible for everyone.
He said:
“We are excited to launch this pioneering initiative and offer an innovative experience to São Paulo. São Paulo has always had innovation in its DNA.”
Furthermore, the crypto payment option is exclusive to registered supporters who have already received their membership cards.
In order to pay for a ticket with cryptocurrency, registered fans will have two options; they may use the usual payment method on the Total Acesso website or use the Bitso app but they must first register on the exchange as a customer; the cryptocurrency exchange, Bitso is also one of the club’s official sponsors.
Bitso is a Latam leading cryptocurrency exchange. Earlier this year, Bitso exchange signed a partnership deal with São Paulo Futebol Clube (SPFC) for the club’s sponsorship which will last for 3 years. This partnership made Bitso exchange the first cryptocurrency exchange to sponsor SPFC.
Bitso’s partnership with the São Paulo football club is strategic as the deal will raise awareness of the benefits of crypto and facilitate digital currencies expansion into the Brazilian markets. Bitso, with a customer base of over 3.7 million, is an exchange well established in Latin American countries like Colombia, Brazil, and Argentina is looking to expand its customer base through its collaboration with São Paulo.
São Paulo is ranked second on the list of the Brazilian football clubs with the highest number of supporters, having more than 27 million followers in the five depicted platforms.
