According to a report published on Friday by the Southern Poverty Law Center, conspiracy theorist Alex Jones has received a $1.4 million Bitcoin contribution from an anonymous account.
The infamous conspiracy theorist is currently facing a series of lawsuits from families of the mass shooting victims at Sandy Hook Elementary school back in 2012. Alex Jones’s response showed parents themselves helped in faking the murder of their children. This statement found him liable for deformation last November, through which he faces trial. Earlier this year, Jones filed for bankruptcy.
The conspiracy theorist opened four crypto wallets and openly solicited donations on his Infowars website after his financial lack. Jones was previously an outspoken critic of the cryptocurrency business, and it seems in the wake of multiple lost lawsuits, he has resorted to it as a financial medium. The huge contribution he received on Friday represents almost 80% of all donations bestowed to the theorist.
Research carried out by the Southern Poverty Center’s Hatewatch found that on April 23rd, $40,000 worth of Bitcoin was anonymously deposited to one of the accounts he owned. A few days later, he withdrew all the funds from the wallet, approximating $1,387,673.19.
A few weeks ago, Jones was accused of hiding his assets as a plan to avoid paying restitution to families of the Sandy Hook massacre. The mass shooting incident took the lives of 26 individuals, most of who were children.
A court motion filed in Texas claims that since 2018 Jones has transferred millions of dollars from multiple accounts owned by Infowars into what the motion terms an “alphabet soup of shell entities .”Lawyers of the Sandy Hook families suppose this was a deliberate move to siphon off the accused assets and make them judgment-proof.
