Paradisers! President Donald Trump is doubling down on crypto, announcing that Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other valuable digital assets will be central to the U.S. Crypto Strategic Reserve. The revelation came through a Truth Social post early Sunday, where Trump directed his Presidential Working Group on Crypto to move forward with plans to accumulate Solana, XRP, and Cardano.
This move marks a significant shift from vague political lip service to a direct policy initiative. Trump declared, “A U.S. Crypto Reserve will elevate this critical industry after years of corrupt attacks by the Biden Administration. I will make sure the U.S. is the Crypto Capital of the World.”
And just like that, the U.S. is now positioning itself as the world’s largest government-backed whale.
National Bitcoin Reserve: A Game Changer?
The idea of a U.S. Bitcoin reserve has been gaining traction among lawmakers, with Senator Cynthia Lummis actively pushing legislation to make it a reality. Bitwise CEO Hunter Horsley confirmed that the initiative is “definitely in play” and will be a major discussion point at a private Washington gathering on March 11.
The U.S. government already holds over $17 billion in Bitcoin and $120 million in Ethereum, mostly from seizures. If Trump proceeds with a national Bitcoin reserve, it could trigger a domino effect among other nations, forcing countries like Japan and South Korea to follow suit.
Metaplanet CEO Simon Gerovich believes this could be the catalyst for global Bitcoin adoption at a scale never seen before. “Once the U.S. commits to holding Bitcoin as a strategic asset, every country will have to reconsider their stance,” he stated.
