The World of Women NFT project has partnered with The Sandbox to build a platform that promotes female inclusiveness and representation in Web 3 and the metaverse. The program dubbed the “WoW Foundation,” will get $25 million in financing over five years, with the funds going toward education and mentorship.
In July, Yam Karkai, a digital illustrator and non-fungible token (NFT) artist, and her boyfriend Raphael Malavieille established the World of Women network, releasing a collection of 10,000 unique female NFT avatars. According to the organization, data published in November found that female artists accounted for 5% of all NFT art sales in the previous 21 months.
Since its November launch, World of Women has risen to the top of the NFT charts, boasting a 7.1 ETH (approximately $17,500) floor price on secondary marketplace OpenSea. The initiative has significantly profited from the publicity provided by actress Reese Witherspoon, whose media business Hello Sunshine collaborated with the project in February.
The Virtual Academy
The WoW Foundation will utilize the funds to build a virtual academy for artists and invest in diverse and inclusive spaces for women in the metaverse’s Web 3. The organization stated that it hopes to increase female participation by serving as an incubator and giving guidance, money, mentorship, and access to The Sandbox network. The Sandbox is a division of the blockchain gaming behemoth Animoca Brands.
Free online Web 3 training will also be provided through an immersive experience in The Sandbox, and students who finish the course will be accredited and awarded an “NFT certificate.”
“Through supporting the education and funding of women’s initiatives we hope these programs will produce a generation of powerful women builders in the space,” said Sebastien Borget, co-founder and chief operating officer of The Sandbox, in a news statement.
In addition to a virtual academy, The Sandbox will have a WoW Museum showcase for the WoW Foundation.
