Following the accusation of defrauding cryptocurrency investors $4 billion through a crypto Ponzi scheme, the “Crypto Queen” has been added to the list of the top ten wanted fugitives by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The announcement will be live at the press conference on Thursday at 11 a.m. ET by the Southern District of New York (SDNY) federal court. The FBI is also giving a reward of $100,000 to anyone who can reveal any information that will lead to her arrest.
According to a statement from the US Attorney for the South District of New York, Ignatova “allegedly defraud[ed] investors of more than $4 billion through the OneCoin cryptocurrency company.”
Ignatova is publicly known as the face of the OneCoin project and she is generally referred to as the leader, a project that started in Bulgaria in 2014.
In a report by the investigators, the project was not backed by blockchain technology, the coin was basically minted out of thin air after Ignatova told investors that OneCoin cryptocurrency could be mined and possess actual value.
Although she has been suspected of running a Ponzi scheme since 2017 when she vanished from the sight of the public, in 2019, Ignatova and other leaders of his team were sued and the team refused to respond to the lawsuit, the plaintiff was however awarded a default judgment.
Some of the key figures in the OneCoin leadership team have been apprehended, one of them being her brother, who despite pleading guilty to the charges is likely to face 90 years imprisonment.
Last month, Ignatova was also added to Europol’s most wanted list after allegedly making billions by scamming crypto investors across the globe.
