Victims of a crypto scam run by the President of a fake United Nations affiliate have finally gotten justice as the perpetrator has been arrested.
Asa Saint Clair is facing up to 20 years in prison for one count of wire fraud.
Crypto Scammer Tricked Investors with a Fake Digital Coin IGObit
According to the announcement, Asa built an investment scheme that tricked investors into providing loans to his sham organization. The organization dubbed “World Sports Alliance” fronted as an affiliate of the United Nations that was focused on promoting the values of sports that was developing IGObit.
IGObit was an alleged digital coin that promised high returns on investment. With the guaranteed high return, Asa Saint Clair was able to attract a good number of investors. He ran this sham organization from November 2017 to September 2019.
U.S. Attorney Damian Williams revealed that more than 60 people were separated from their hard-earned money through the lies perpetrated by Asa Saint Clair. The fake UN affiliate president did not develop invest in any IGObit coin. Instead, he used the funds to maintain his lavish lifestyle, which involved expensive Manhattan dinners and plane tickets.
Saint Clair Facing Up to 20 Years in Prison
In November 2019, the long arm of the law finally caught up with Saint Clair and placed him under house arrest in the state of Arizona. The President of a fake United Nations affiliate had posted a $500,000 bail bond. However, the crypto scammer tried fleeing to Madagascar during the investigator interviews, prompting the implementation of stricter-than-usual conditions for his release.
Saint Clair’s sentencing is scheduled for July 19, 2022. His case will be determined by Judge Kevin. The crypto fraudster is facing up to 20 years in jail.
