BAYC Holder Sells Ape #6462 for $200
On Sunday, a crypto investor sold Bored Ape NFT #6462 worth $200k for 200 usdc. An event revealed by Boredapebot, a Twitter handle that shares every sale of Ape from the Bored Ape Yacht collection. However, there have been speculations about whether the transaction was deliberate.
Meanwhile, BAYC is one of the most expensive NFT collections in the market; its floor price is currently at 101.75 ETH, equating to $206,000. Ape #6462 possesses one of the rarest attributes, having a bone necklace, a bored pizza and a police motorcycle helmet. Therefore, there is every possibility that the sale was a mistake.
If it was really a mistake, then the seller must have thought he was accepting an offer of 200 ETH instead of 200USDC; this indicates that the former owner sold the Ape for more than 99% below the floor price.
Speculations by the Crypto Community
Although a few of the crypto community sympathize with the seller, however, some believe that the transaction was for evasion of tax when the circumstances surrounding the transaction are being examined.
The transaction history on Opensea revealed that the NFT had been sold a couple of times for not less than 2 ETH ($7000) about one year from now. It also shows that the NFT has been transferred more than five times between different wallets since minted.
Another evidence to buttress the tax evasion idea was that the buyer’s account was created this month and the offer was accepted a few minutes after it was received.
One user suggested that it could be a wealthy NFT holder, who “sold their nephew one of their board apes for 200 USD,” someone else says it’s an insider job.
However, the reason for the transaction, this is not the first time a similar transaction is happening; December last year, the crypto community also witnessed a investor who made a mistake that caused so much fortune by selling Ape #3457 for $3,000 instead of $300,000
