Crypto wallet service MetaMask has integrated Apple Pay to allow users to buy cryptocurrency directly via credit and debit cards.
MetaMask to Route Payments via Wyre
MetaMask announced on its Twitter account. It stated that users could now buy crypto on iOS with Apple Pay. The crypto wallet service continued that there was now more transparency when interacting with sites, and support for gasless transactions where relevant. Additionally, MetaMask announced that it has also launched the Dark Mode feature for Apple Pay after popular demand.
Apple did not have a feature for direct crypto payments. With this integration, crypto wallet service MetaMask routed payments via Wyre. Wyre is an exchange that offers crypto to fiat via API. The partnership with Apple will see iOS users deposit up to a daily maximum of $400 into their wallets using their Visa or Mastercards.
Another advantage that comes with the MetaMask and Apple Pay integration is eliminating the requirement to transfer Ethereum from a centralized exchange platform into the application. MetaMask is an Ethereum-based software crypto wallet.
Apart from Wyre, MetaMask also uses Transak as a payment gateway for debit and card transactions. Transak allows the purchase of stablecoins such as USDT, USDC, and DAI on the Ethereum mainnet.
MetaMask and Apple Pay Integration to Reduce Gas Fees on Transactions
Crypto wallet service MetaMask stated that the exact payment method and fees would depend on the location. The integration promises lower gas fees, with some transactions being even gasless when done on a private blockchain. MetaMask revealed that it does not get any profit from gas fees while making an ETH purchase.
Commenting on the integration, Director of Communications and Content at ConsenSys James Beck said the goal was to increase accessibility and reduce friction. According to Beck, MetaMask’s integration of Apple Pay will expand the ways users can convert crypto within the app itself.
