The former CEO of the TRON Foundation, Justin Sun, is taking up his new role as Grenada’s ambassador to the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Justin announced his resignation from TRON in mid-December 2021. After being appointed to the WTO, Justin revealed the career shift.

Even though he was leaving his active engagement in TRON, Justin maintained that he would not be abandoning the company.

The first evidence of Justin’s entrance into WTO on the socials is a picture tweeted by the director-general to the WTO Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. The picture was taken during Justin’s 90-minute visit to the WTO headquarters. Ngozi stated that she received credentials from and discussed special economic developments needs of Small Island Economies (SIDS) with Justin Sun.

The presentation of credentials is an important step of diplomacy. It shows that the diplomat has accepted the responsibility to the sovereign or organization he has been nominated to serve. Presenting credentials show that the process of vetting and approval of the representative is now complete.

Grenada recognizes former CEO Justin Sun’s value by being its ambassador to the WTO. A diplomat from the region stated that the very high profile and presence of Justin bring attention to the work of the WTO. This, in turn, helps promote Grenada’s cause to WTO.

Reportedly, other Caribbean countries had sought Justin for similar representation. In his acceptance, Justin said that Grenada intends to work closely with other small, vulnerable economies to secure special consideration in the various trade agreements.

Some of the items on Justin’s agenda are better access to vaccines for developing countries, a decentralized supply chain of global vaccine manufacturing, and sustainable fishing practices. Others include agriculture support, the dispute resolution system in WTO, climate change, carbon tax, and women’s role in the organization.
