Payment service provider, BitPay, has announced on a Twitter Blog post that Australian Energy Company 1st Energy now accepts cryptocurrencies through the platform.
With this milestone, 1st Energy becomes the first Australian energy retailer to incorporate Bitpay payments. The newly formed partnership will make it easier for customers to pay their utility bills. This is not to say that all 1st Energy customers could only pay their utility bills using Shiba Inu.
BitPay supports many other cryptocurrencies, including market lead tokens like Bitcoin, Dogecoin, Litecoin, and Ethereum. The 5 USD-pegged stablecoins supported on the platform are BUSD, DAI, GUSD, USDP, and USDC. Therefore, the Australian Energy Company customers could pay their utility bills using any tokens supported by Bitpay.
1st Energy was founded in 2014 and is currently servicing New South Wales, Victoria, and Queensland. Currently, it serves over 23000 customers with its head offices in Melbourne. This new venture will go down as the first-ever Australian energy retailer to allow utility bill payments in crypto.
Bitpay originally started as a Bitcoin payment service provider in May of 2011. Its headquarters are based in Atlanta, USA, and has since grown to one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges globally. Bitpay announced the Shiba Inu integration in December 2021, thereby allowing the token’s spending, swapping, buying, and spending.
Cryptocurrency Acceptance Continues to Grow
1st Energy is one of the numerous companies dipping their toes into the crypto pool this year. A New York-based jewelry collection, SuperJeweler, has also come forward to announce it will soon be accepting cryptocurrencies as a source of revenue. The jeweler will incorporate Shiba Inu through BitPay as well.
Chief executive officer of cinema giant AMC, Adam Aaron, on arch 19th also announced a similar approach with AMC. “BitPay will be live for AMC online payments on our website by March 19 and live on our mobile apps by April 16, possibly a few days earlier,’ he stated.’
