Barry Silbert, the DCG (Grayscale parent) founder, has announced on Twitter that Grayscale Bitcoin and Ethereum Trust will now be available to millions of traders who use Robinhood.

GBTC is a share that provides investors with direct access to Bitcoin in the form of a security with no need to buy or store the digital asset directly. ETHE, however, operates as an open-end investment company whose shares reflect the value of Ether held by the trust.

Grayscale’s Bitcoin Trust is the largest investment vehicle dedicated to the leading crypto asset. As of May 2, the trust had $24.6 billion in assets under management. Grayscale’s Ethereum Trust, meanwhile, had over $329 million in assets.

Robinhood, however, operates a discount brokerage that enables retail investors to enter financial markets (including cryptocurrency) with a little barrier. The first quarter of this year saw Robinhood revenue decline by 43% year-over-year due to the drop in sales of crypto by 39%. Despite the downward slope, Robinhood’s net cumulative funded accounts increased 27% year-over-year.

Last month, Robinhood announced the addition of four more crypto assets to be available to the platform users, these crypto-assets are Shiba Inu, Polygon, Compound, and Solana making the list of cryptocurrencies available for traders on the platform more than 20.

Retail traders’ embrace of crypto peaked in the first half of 2021, a period that coincided with multiple record highs for Bitcoin and the broader market. However, retail interest has declined significantly since then, as evidenced by Google search trends; the declination can also be due to a lack of new capital entering the market.
