One of the most popular NFT marketplaces, Opensea, has joined the victims of a crypto data breach after its staff at Customer.io, the platform’s email delivery partner, leaked user data.
In the company’s blog post on Thursday, the marketplace said that an employee of Customer.io “misused their employee access to download and share email addresses – provided by OpenSea users and subscribers to our newsletter – with an unauthorized external party.”
All customers who have shared their email at any point in time with Opensea should assume they have been affected by the breach, according to a statement released by the company, this could result in “a heightened likelihood for email phishing attempts trying to impersonate OpenSea,” the company added.
Any moment from now, those malicious actors may try to contact Opensea users through emails from domains that are likely to appear like Opensea.io (like Opensea.xyz), said Opensea, therefore, every user who has shared their emails on the platform should be wary of the possibility of this event.
After the Opensea announcement on Twitter, some users shared their email notifications by Opensea informing them of the data breach.
According to Opensea, it has been assisting Customer.io regarding its ongoing investigation and has reported the event to the law enforcement agency.
Conclusively, Opensea said it will update users regarding the situation when needed and said that requests that every phishing attempt is reported to the company’s support team.
Opensea is an online decentralized marketplace that lets users sell and buy Non-fungible tokens, it is currently the largest NFT marketplace, visit our blog for rich information about NFT.

Crypto Data Leaks
Earlier this year, the popular customers relations management software firm, HubSpot suffered a data breach, an event that led to cyberpunks stealing customers’ data from BlockFi, Circle, Pantera Capital, NYDIG, and other prominent crypto firms.
“The information that may have been accessed includes first and last names, email addresses, mailing addresses, phone numbers, and regulatory classifications,” Pantera said at the time.
In May, Opensea discord data was also compromised and bombarded with fraudulent advertisements promoting a scam NFT mint.
