Twitter has officially enabled third-party Bitcoin tipping services as of Thursday this week. This new integration is set to drive the price of Bitcoin above $300,000.
The new integration will give iOS users the ability to tip each other seamlessly throughout the entire globe. Currently, the feature is compatible with Strike, Cash App, Muun, Bitcoin-enabled third-party solutions, and purportedly, the incoming Square’s hardware wallet.
Customers will have to link Bitcoin to Lightning Network addresses for the feature to work. Sending money will be possible from Bitcoin addresses, and reception is only possible via the Strike API. Twitter made a clear statement on this, saying they are not into the flow of funds and would not be receiving any commission whatsoever.
During the launch of this feature, Jack Mallers of Strike API demonstrated the service. In the video, Mallers sent Bitcoins to El Salvador from Chicago via Twitter. How the internet revolutionized communication, Twitter and the Lightning Network are doing so for money.
With this feat, Twitter has now ranked the most efficient social platform in value transmissions.
In a press call with Reuters, Twitter also announced that the features will soon be incorporated for android users.
The payment ability of this feature is dependant on the services available at a user’s geographical location. However, the exception to this will be through Bitcoin and Lightning tips that will be accessible to all customers worldwide since Bitcoin works geographically independently.
Twitter’s product team member recounts that this is a great opportunity for them to choose a global and barrier-less option. Bitcoins serve this purpose because although it is yet to be fully incorporated into full-blown world transaction methods, it is well in the vision.
The announcement did not specify further if the tipping feature would be developed for computer interfaces compatibility.
