The apex bank of Montenegro has unveiled a partnership with Ripple to roll out the country’s Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC).
The information was disclosed by Montenegro Prime Minister Dritan Abazović on Twitter in a January 18 tweet, according to the tweet, the country has launched a pilot project aiming at building the first central bank digital currency (CBDC) or stablecoin for the people of Montenegro in partnership with Ripple.
Thus far, there is no clarity about the nature of the digital currency, also, it is noteworthy that the country Montenegro has no national currency of its own, it has however been using the euro as its national currency since 2002 when the transnational currency was introduced. Although the country is neither a part of the EU nor a European country, it, however, applied for EU membership some years ago.

Montenegro Relationship with Crypto
To some extent, Montenegro has been a friendly nation to cryptocurrency.
The country has made some moves that saw it as a potential nation for crypto adoption, for instance, in April last year, it held a crypto event Future Now, an event that was attended by Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, and as per a report, Buerin was granted the country citizenship.
