South Korean Regulators Launch Probing into Crypto Staking

The South Korean cryptocurrency exchanges have raised their eyebrows following a recent report of crypto staking services being investigated by the country’s financial watchdog.

According to a recent report by local media, South Korean prosecutors have commenced probing into crypto staking services in the country, leaving many crypto exchanges with the thoughts of increased regulatory scrutiny in the country.

The report confirmed that the South Korean Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) of recent informed some top crypto exchanges in the country to cooperate with probing into their crypto staking program.

About three of the top crypto exchanges in the country confirmed the notification, affirming the report by the local media, these exchanges include Bithumb, Upbit, Coinone and Korbit.

An official at one of the above-mentioned exchanges confirmed that prosecutors have requested data related to staking in crypto from the crypto firm he is administrating. Two more individuals from two different exchanges also confirmed that it had sent the regulators crypto staking data in early February.

Just like US regulators, are South Korean financial regulators after crypto? Well, time will prove it. Thus far, there is no comment from regulators of South Korea on why or whether it is investigating crypto staking services in the country, although a spokesperson confirmed that the staking services are currently under investigation.
