While the current government is looking to crack down on crypto in the US, some presidential candidates who are embracing crypto surfaced in the US; it appears that the chance to upturn the current crypto crackdown in the US is closer than expected.
And no doubt, Bitcoin has become an integral part of the global financial system. Now, a new history will be written as the first US political campaign in which candidates will accept donations through Bitcoin.
The Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr, on Friday, announced his intention to accept Bitcoin as donations for his political campaigns against the 2024 election. Therefore, Bitcoin will play a notable role in the next US presidential election.
Kennedy Jr, while addressing crypto enthusiasts at a recent Bitcoin 2023 convention in Miami, noted that nearly “everyone in this room is aware of the link between Bitcoin and democracy and freedom.”
While speaking, he assured crypto enthusiasts of crypto energy regulations that will not punish the miners in the US, adding that if he can lead the United States, he will introduce policies to make cryptocurrency thrive in the country.
“I will reverse the government’s growing hostility toward this industry,” he said.
He also suggested the presidential pardon of SilkRoad darknet marketplace founder Ross Ulbricht who has been sentenced to two life sentences on numerous indictments.
Republican Candidate to Accept Bitcoin Donations
Another Republican 2024 presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has disclosed his intention to not only accept campaign donations through fiat currency but Bitcoin will also as well be accepted.
According to Ramaswamy, the donation will be accepted through BitPay, a crypto payment service provider.
The tweet came some hours after the presidential candidate Kennedy Jr announcement at the Miami conference.
