Online payment giant Paypal has announced to all its customers they can now use a checkout with crypto all across the world.
The news got released through a tweet yesterday.
Over 29 million merchants can now utlilze Paypal as a means of transaction.
Paypal’s Checkout with Crypto
Earlier in March this year, Paypal announced a new crypto-based release to facilitate more ways to explore crypto. The ‘Checkout with Crypto’ payment service was aimed to allow American consumers to make payments through their Paypal wallets.
The CEO of Paypal was recorded presenting the checkout with crypto feature as a seamless replication of credit and debit cards payment.
The feature builds the ability of a customer to buy, sell and hold cryptocurrencies with Paypal. Any customer can now sell their assets through Paypal then use the remittance as a payment option for online purchases. Digital assets are converted to US dollars at checkout with no additional fees. This makes part of the checkout flow.
As for now, the online payment giant only accepts payments in four main cryptocurrencies: Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and Bitcoin Cash. Although such, it is quite important to note only one type of cryptocurrency will be allowed for one purchase.
In October 2020, Only US customers could buy, sell and hold digital assets over Paypal wallets. A year later, the service had broadened to European users. Checkout with crypto will likely take the same route. The feature will begin rolling out to its customers across the US today expected to expand over the coming years.
Paypal’s Plan for the Future
While discussing the company’s fourth-quarter financial results, Paypal’s CEO glimpsed us at the rich possibilities the company had regarding cryptocurrencies. The team expressed eagerness to work with regulatory bodies to shape the role of digital currencies today.
