Developing news reveal that Tesla might go ahead with Dogecoin payments, as it has already started testing the feature.
Elon Musk took to Twitter to announce that Tesla will accept Dogecoin payments for its merchandise as part of the tests. In the tweet, Elon says, “Tesla will make some merch buyable with Doge and see how it goes.”
Tesla’s merchandise includes products like the “Cyberwhistle” and “Cybersquad for Kids.” Customers can access these products through Tesla’s website, which now indicates the option to pay with Dogecoin. Currently, customers can buy the Cybersquad for Kids with 12,020 Doge, and the Cyberwhistle that is currently out of stock goes for 300 DOGE.
Tesla’s DOGE Payments exposed before the announcement
Before Elon Musk’s tweet, the news of Tesla’s DOGE payments tests had already broken. Going by “Tree of Alpha,” a software engineer analyzed a source code in the latest JavaScript files that Tesla uses for processing payments on its website. Dogecoin is forced to return null in all instances, proving that the company was testing the code in production.
When the rumors started swirling, the DOGE payment option was a hidden feature that many non-technical people could not see. However, after Elon Musk’s announcement, the payment option became public for everyone.
